Diwali gifting has a way of turning into a spreadsheet: twelve colleagues, four neighbours, the cousins, the building watchman, the friend who always remembers you. And somewhere in there, most of the gifts become the same box of sweets.
Here are ten ideas under ₹500 that feel personal without blowing the budget. Yes, one of them is ours. The other nine aren’t, because a good list should be useful even if you don’t buy anything from us.
1. A self-care ritual box
Around ₹369. Our Moon Care box: six fresh herbal face pack sachets, three posters they get to choose (or you choose for them), a daisy candle, a bookmark and a wrapped mystery gift, in a kraft box ready to hand over. It works for almost anyone, including people who "don’t do skincare". Tick the gift option at checkout and we’ll add your message.
2. A plant that’s hard to kill
₹150 to ₹400 at a local nursery. A money plant, snake plant or ZZ plant in a nice clay pot. It’s alive, it lasts, and it quietly reminds them of you every time they water it. Add a little tag with care instructions.
3. Handmade diyas from a local potter
₹100 to ₹300. Skip the factory-made sets and buy a handful of hand-painted diyas from a potter or a neighbourhood stall. Pair them with a small bottle of oil and cotton wicks so they’re ready to light.
4. A paperback you loved
₹200 to ₹450. A book is the most personal gift on this list, because it says I thought this would mean something to you. Write a note on the first page about why you chose it.
5. A small sampler of Indian tea or coffee
₹250 to ₹500. A few small packs from a single estate (Darjeeling, Nilgiri, Coorg, Chikmagalur) make a lovely gift for the person who lives on chai or filter coffee. Look for small Indian roasters and tea gardens rather than supermarket brands.
6. A sketchbook and a few good pens
₹300 to ₹500. For the friend who used to draw and stopped. A plain sketchbook and three or four brush pens is an invitation to start again.
7. A block-printed cotton napkin or stole
₹250 to ₹500. Hand-block-printed textiles from Rajasthan, Gujarat or local craft melas are beautiful, useful and support artisans directly.
8. A printed photo and a hand-written letter
Under ₹200. Print one photo of the two of you, put it in a simple frame, and write a real letter to go with it. This one costs the least and usually gets kept the longest.
9. A microgreens or herb grow kit
₹200 to ₹450. Seeds, a little soil, a pot. In ten days they’re eating something they grew. Great for kids and flat-dwellers.
10. A 2027 planner or desk calendar
₹200 to ₹450. Diwali falls right before the new year. A beautiful planner, especially one from an independent illustrator, gets used every single day.
A few tips for gifting at scale
- Mix and match. For an office of twelve, choose two or three ideas and personalise with a note, rather than twelve identical boxes.
- Order early. Courier networks get very busy in the week before Diwali. Aim to order at least ten days before you need it.
- Ask about bulk pricing. Most small brands (us included) will happily put together special pricing for ten or more. Write to us with the quantity and date.
- Write something. Two lines in your own handwriting turn any gift on this list into a thoughtful one.
Prices are rough guides and will vary by city and seller.
Happy Diwali from all of us at Moon Care Co. May your home be bright and your week have at least one quiet evening in it.
