Why We Started Moon Care: Indian Herbs Deserved Better
Herbal face packs came in big pouches that went stale, often with added perfume, and nothing about them felt cared for. Here’s why we set out to change that.

Moon Care is the two of us. We make every batch together, but the idea was my wife’s, and it started with a question she kept asking: why does natural Indian skincare so often feel cheap?
The 500 g pouch
Order a herbal face pack online and, in our experience, you get a big pouch of powder, usually around 500 grams. Many of the ones we tried smelled of added perfume. Some were a colour a little too bright to be just herbs.
Then comes the part nobody talks about. You open that pouch once, and it sits in a humid bathroom for the five or six months it takes to finish. Every time it’s opened, a little more air and moisture get in. Long before the end, it has clumped, faded and lost its scent. You’re not using the fresh herbs you paid for any more.
And nothing about it feels natural, or looked after. The packaging looks like an afterthought, and using it feels like settling for less.
Why should natural feel cheap?
Walk past any beauty counter and everything is beautifully made: the jar, the box, the words on it. It reassures you that you’re buying something good, even when the list of ingredients on the back runs to thirty lines.
Indian herbs, which need nothing added at all, were getting the opposite treatment. Haldi, neem, tulsi, multani mitti: things Indian homes have trusted for generations, sold in plain pouches with no care at all.
We wanted to give honest herbs the experience they deserve.
The batch that looked like dust
We started in our kitchen, drying tulsi, neem and beetroot ourselves. Our first batch went through a heat dryer to save time. It was a mistake: the heat stripped the herbs of their colour and scent. What came out looked like dust and smelled of nothing.
So we slowed down. Now the leaves are spread out in the shade for four or five days, away from direct sun. The herbs keep their colour, their scent and their natural oils. We have dried everything that way since.
What we do differently
- One ritual, one sachet. Every pack is sealed in a single-use 5 g sachet, opened once, on the night you use it. Your sixth ritual is as fresh as your first.
- Nothing added. No preservatives, no colours, no fragrance. Every ingredient is named on the card.
- Hand-mixed in small batches, weighed and blended by us, never in bulk.
- Made to feel special. Every box arrives like a gift: art posters you choose, with your sachets on the back, a daisy candle, a bookmark and a small wrapped surprise.
We used every formula ourselves, week after week, before we sold a single box.
Natural skincare should feel at least as cared-for as anything on a beauty counter. That’s the whole idea behind Moon Care.
A small honest note: our packs are herbal face packs, not medicine. Skin is wonderfully individual, so please patch test on your inner arm before your first use, and if you have a specific skin concern, talk to a dermatologist.
